The Allram family wines are defined by their unique character and strong individuality, a testament to the generations of experience and skill that have shaped their production.
This legacy began with a courageous decision by Walter Allram in the 1950s to convert the family farm into a winery. This pivotal moment laid the foundation for what would become a renowned wine estate, guided by a steadfast commitment to quality and innovation.
Walter's bold move was followed by Michaela Haas-Allram and Erich Haas, who took over the winery and expanded its horizons through export. Their dedication to detail and quality was ingrained into the family's ethos, ensuring that each generation would inherit a passion for excellence in winemaking.
Today, the torch has been passed to Lorenz and his sister Magdalena, who are steering the winery towards organic farming, reflecting their dedication to sustainability and quality. For the Allram family, winemaking is an ever-evolving craft, requiring constant innovation and a readiness to embrace change.
Nowadays...
Lorenz Haas-Allram's journey into winemaking was serendipitous. An injury shifted his focus from soccer to viticulture, leading him to attend viticulture school. His studies took him across Austria, Spain, and to internships in Pfalz, Styria, New Zealand, South Africa, and Wachau. This diverse experience, where new-world techniques met traditional methods, and science blended with passion, has profoundly influenced his approach to winemaking.
Since 2015, Lorenz has been at the helm of vinification at the family estate. He dedicates himself to the meticulous recultivation of forgotten vineyards on the steep slopes of the Strassertal, a small valley nestled between Gaisberg and Wechselberg. This valley, with its unique geological and climatic characteristics, reflects and amplifies the distinct terroir of the greater Kamptal region. The village of Straß, with its calcareous sedimentary rock formations left by the ancient Danube River, adds to the unique geological profile, making it one of the most exciting appellations in Kamptal.
The Allram family’s commitment to winemaking excellence is further evidenced by their membership in the Association of Traditional Wineries Austria (Österreichische Traditionsweingüter) and the numerous national and international awards they have garnered. These accolades often highlight their most important vineyard sites, such as Heiligenstein, Gaisberg, and Renner.
Cultivating 30 hectares of vineyards around Straß, the Allram family produces wines that are a true reflection of their philosophy: a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of quality. Their courageous approach to winemaking, coupled with strong family ties and a healthy dose of perfectionism, continues to drive them forward, ensuring that each bottle of Allram wine is a testament to their heritage and vision.
