The Pinot Blanc (or Weissburgunder) from the Hochplateau Panzaun benefits from a deep, rich soil teeming with humus, providing the ideal conditions for its cultivation. This terroir imparts distinctive characteristics to the wine, resulting in a depth and complexity that is unique to this vineyard site.
While Grüner Veltliner and Riesling have long been the stars of the Kamptal region, Pinot Blanc holds a special place among the winemakers. Its presence in the vineyards reflects a dedication to diversity and a recognition of its potential to produce exceptional wines. At 30 years old, the vineyard has reached an ideal stage of maturity, producing grapes that are rich in flavor and complexity.
Following harvest, the wine was aged in small oak barrels for six months, allowing it to develop depth and complexity while subtly integrating oak flavors. After barrel aging, the wine was bottled and underwent a second fermentation in the bottle, utilizing the natural sugars present in the wine. This process, known as méthode traditionelle, adds complexity and effervescence to the finished wine. Following the second fermentation, the base wine was left to rest on the lees for an extended period, resulting in a wine with a delicate creaminess and fine mousseaux.
The Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) Ried Panzaun presents a bright yellow-green hue with a shimmering silver sheen, capturing attention at first glance. The fine mousse adds a delightful touch of elegance. On the nose, it reveals an inviting bouquet of delicate nutty notes intertwined with ripe pear and hints of tropical mango, offering a truly aromatic experience.
On the palate, this wine is powerful yet graceful, showcasing a sweet texture that envelops the senses. Subtle herbal nuances add depth, while the minerality comes through on the finish, leaving a lasting impression. The aftertaste is a harmonious blend of honey and yellow tropical fruit notes, creating a delightful and complex profile that invites you to savor each sip.
