Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner Ried Achleiten Smaragd LR 2018

The Ried Achleiten is known for producing wines with a distinct character, and the 2018 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd LR is a prime example. On the nose, it captivates with expressive floral aromas, vineyard peach, fresh kitchen herbs, and fine spice notes like white pepper, accompanied by a dark, smoky minerality. The palate is juicy and concentrated, boasting an impressive density of extract and a subtle exotic quality, all beautifully balanced by fresh acidity. The finish is long, with mineral and spicy undertones.

As a Smaragd, this wine is known for its dry, dense, and complex nature, promising great aging potential. It pairs wonderfully with traditional Austrian dishes such as Tafelspitz with apple-horseradish and chive sauce or a rich veal ragout (Kalbsbeuschel). The Achleiten LR also excels with flavorful, intense Asian cuisine, such as Thai Som Tam (spicy papaya salad).

This Grüner Veltliner is already charming and racy, reaching its first peak of drinkability, but it will continue to evolve harmoniously over the next 3-5 years. With proper cellaring, it can age gracefully for 15 years or more.
