The rationale behind this new wine club's departure from terroir

 

Last month, Milan hosted the launch of the exclusive wine club Domus Artium Reserve, drawing together top chefs and winemakers, along with the unveiling of a special wine blend that melds 50% French and 50% Italian influences.

Entrepreneur Barrett Wissman conceived Domus Artium Reserve as a pioneering endeavor, uniting exceptional talents worldwide. This private wine club, accessible solely by invitation, promises members unparalleled access to curated experiences including exclusive dinners, bespoke trips, and privileged visits to prestigious wineries. Partnering with esteemed venues like the inaugural clubhouse at Rome's Palazzo Ruspoli, Domus Artium Reserve offers a distinctly elite membership.

The project's launch was celebrated at Milan's iconic Galleria, hosted by esteemed chef Carlo Cracco at his Michelin-starred restaurant, Cracco. Cracco praised the venture as "marvellous," "very beautiful," and "ambitious," reflecting its grand vision and innovative spirit.

Enhancing the culinary dimension are acclaimed chefs Yannick Alléno of Pavyllon fame and Thomas Keller renowned for The French Laundry. Their involvement underscores Domus Artium Reserve's commitment to delivering unforgettable dining experiences.

On the wine front, the project boasts the expertise of critic Antonio Galloni alongside esteemed winemakers Michel Rolland and Riccardo Cotarella. Their contributions ensure that Domus Artium Reserve upholds standards of excellence, offering sophistication and quality to its discerning members.

Breaking away from traditional terroir expressions, Domus Artium Reserve presents Four Hands, a groundbreaking collaboration between Rolland and Cotarella. This innovative wine blend harmoniously combines Italian and French varietals, challenging geographical boundaries. Rolland and Cotarella approach this project with a spirit of adventure, aiming to create a wine that transcends traditions and explores new territories.

While specific technical details of Four Hands remain undisclosed, Cotarella describes it as a tribute to the rich histories of Italy and France. Available in limited quantities, a case of six bottles is priced at US$3,650, reflecting its exclusivity and craftsmanship.

In addition to Four Hands, Rolland collaborates with chef Keller on a Bordeaux blend destined for acclaimed venues like The French Laundry and Per Se. Amidst star-studded collaborations, Domus Artium Reserve emphasizes a steadfast commitment to quality and tradition. Wissman asserts that while celebrity endorsements add prestige, it is dedication to craftsmanship that defines the ethos of the project.
