VSPT Wine Group Achieves 47% Cut in CO₂ Emissions Intensity, Reinforces Net Zero Commitment

In a landmark sustainability achievement, VSPT Wine Group—one of the world’s top 20 wine producers—has announced a 47% reduction in CO₂ emissions intensity per liter of wine produced, compared to its 2019 baseline.

This major milestone highlights the company’s firm commitment to its Net Zero agenda, which lies at the heart of its long-term business model and environmental vision.

The progress aligns with VSPT’s membership in the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), where it remains the first and only Latin American Gold Member, a status it has proudly maintained for three consecutive years.

A Clear Roadmap to Net Zero

VSPT has set its sights on reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050, with clearly defined interim targets that include:

  • Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030
  • 40% reduction in overall carbon footprint intensity (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) by 2030

Notably, the carbon footprint target was achieved five years ahead of schedule, in early 2025—a testament to the efficiency, innovation, and resilience of its climate strategies.

Clean Energy and Smart Production

The company’s substantial emissions reduction is the result of a comprehensive climate change mitigation plan, centered on four key pillars:

  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Transitioning to clean, renewable energy
  • Decreasing agrochemical use in vineyards
  • Continual optimization of production systems

Today, 100% of VSPT’s industrial operations are powered by renewable energy. Even more impressively, the company generates 42% of this energy in-house, with:

  • 14% from solar panels installed on its estates
  • 86% from a cutting-edge biogas facility in Molina, which transforms organic grape harvest waste into clean electricity

Leadership Rooted in Collaboration

Reflecting on the latest achievements, Carolina Gotuzzo, VSPT’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director, remarked:

“It is very important for us to achieve milestones on our way to becoming Net Zero. These are ambitious goals that require an interdisciplinary effort among different company areas, as well as the commitment of our suppliers and strategic partners, who play a key role in achieving them.”

Gotuzzo emphasized that collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders is key to delivering long-term, science-backed climate action.

A Holistic Sustainability Framework

Over the past 16 years, VSPT has evolved into a benchmark for sustainability in the global wine industry. Today, it operates under a science-based framework consisting of 23 sustainability work agendas, including:

  • Accelerating water efficiency through precision technology
  • Prioritizing eco-design in packaging and product development
  • Strengthening circular economy principles

Each initiative aligns with VSPT’s belief that a wine company can be both commercially successful and environmentally responsible.

A Model for the Future of Wine

As climate challenges continue to reshape the global wine sector, VSPT’s leadership offers a replicable model for others looking to balance quality wine production with environmental stewardship. By embedding sustainability into every facet of its operations, the group is not only securing its own future, but also helping shape a more climate-resilient wine industry for generations to come.
