In a strategic move reflecting its long-term focus on premium spirits, Pernod Ricard has officially completed the sale of its international wine portfolio to Australian Wine Holdco Limited (AWL), the owner of Accolade Wines.
Effective April 30, 2025, this transaction marks the birth of a new global wine powerhouse: Vinarchy.
From Press Release to Completion
First announced in a press release dated July 17, 2024, the deal has now reached completion. While the financial terms remain undisclosed, the strategic implications are clear. For Pernod Ricard, this divestment allows sharper focus on its premium spirits and champagne brands—such as Chivas Regal, Jameson, and Perrier-Jouët—supporting its ambition for long-term growth and value creation.
To ensure continuity and a smooth transition, Pernod Ricard will continue distributing the divested wine brands across global markets for the next few months.
A Portfolio with Global Reach
The sale involves some of the most recognized and widely distributed wine brands in the world:
- From Australia: Jacob’s Creek, Orlando, St Hugo
- From New Zealand: Brancott Estate, Stoneleigh, Church Road
- From Spain: Campo Viejo, Ysios, Tarsus, Azpilicueta
Together, these brands account for over 10 million nine-liter case equivalents (9Lcs) annually, supported by a fully integrated wine production infrastructure that includes seven wineries spanning from vineyard to bottling.
This portfolio has long been part of Pernod Ricard Winemakers, the group’s dedicated wine division, known for its scale, innovation, and cross-market reach.
Enter Vinarchy: A New Global Wine Player
The merged portfolio will operate under the newly created global wine company Vinarchy, a significant new force in the international wine sector. AWL, backed by an array of global investment funds—including Bain Capital, Intermediate Capital Group, Capital Four, Sona Asset Management, and Samuel Terry Asset Management—brings the financial muscle and long-term outlook required to drive Vinarchy’s success.
The combination of Pernod Ricard’s former wine holdings and Accolade Wines positions Vinarchy as a high-volume, multi-origin wine enterprise, capable of shaping consumer preferences across continents.
A Strategic Shift in Focus
The move is part of Pernod Ricard’s broader portfolio management strategy aimed at premiumization and sustainable value creation. By exiting the wine category—once a significant but less core segment—the company redirects resources toward its core business: premium international spirits and champagnes.
This strategic pivot aligns with broader trends in the global beverage industry, where consumers are increasingly drawn to high-end and experiential drinking options.
