Majestic to Acquire Enotria&Coe in Strategic Expansion Move

Majestic Wine, the UK’s leading specialist wine retailer, has announced a formal agreement to acquire premium wines and spirits supplier Enotria&Coe.

The deal marks a significant step in Majestic’s strategic vision to strengthen its position as the country’s foremost supplier of wines, beers, and spirits. This acquisition is expected to enhance the value, choice, and service Majestic offers to its on-trade partners across the hospitality industry.

A Stronger Position in the Market

Founded in 1972, Enotria&Coe has built one of the most extensive portfolios of premium wines and spirits in the UK, working with over 300 producers and offering more than 200 exclusive agency brands. The company supplies a prestigious list of clients, including renowned restaurants and hospitality venues such as Gaucho, Rick Stein, Hotel du Vin/Malmaison, Bancone, and L’Enclume.

Majestic has identified substantial opportunities to grow Enotria&Coe alongside its existing B2B specialist division, Majestic Commercial. Both entities will continue to operate independently, allowing each to maintain its established identity while benefiting from the combined strength of the Majestic group.

Majestic’s Growing Commercial Division

Since being acquired by Fortress Investment Group in December 2019, Majestic Commercial has become the company’s fastest-growing division, delivering consistent double-digit sales growth for three consecutive years. This acquisition is expected to accelerate that momentum by integrating Enotria&Coe’s expertise and network into Majestic’s expanding business model.

Leadership Perspectives on the Acquisition

Majestic CEO John Colley expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating:
“We are pleased to have entered into a formal agreement to acquire Enotria&Coe. It is a business we have competed against and admired for a long time, with a quality proposition and cultural values that align very closely with what we already do at Majestic. We believe this is a compelling strategic combination and can see huge potential to further enhance Enotria’s proposition and profitability as part of the Majestic group.”

Echoing this sentiment, Enotria&Coe CEO Julian Momen welcomed the deal, highlighting the benefits for employees, customers, and suppliers: “This combination is fantastic news for Enotria&Coe colleagues, customers, our business, and our future growth ambitions. From the initial approach and subsequent discussions with Majestic, it has been obvious to me that there is much to admire in their business and their growth. More importantly, we have a similar business ethos, and our behaviours and focus on people mean that we are fully aligned on building a successful business together for the benefit of customers and suppliers.”
