In a year marked by geopolitical instability and declining global wine consumption, Prosecco DOC has once again proven its resilience and dominance.
While Italian wine exports in 2025 declined slightly—reaching EUR 7.7 billion in value (-3.7%) and 2.1 billion liters in volume (-1.8%)—Prosecco emerged as a clear outperformer, reinforcing its status as the world’s most consumed sparkling wine.
According to official figures released by the Consortium during Vinitaly 2026, Prosecco DOC recorded a global growth of +2.3%, with 667 million bottles produced (+1.1% compared to 2024). A remarkable 82% of this volume was destined for export markets, confirming the denomination’s strong international orientation and a total value of EUR 3.6 billion.
The United States continues to lead as the primary growth driver, posting an impressive +23.3% increase. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom maintained stable demand, and France surged into third place for the first time with a notable +19.8% rise. Established markets such as Germany showed steady growth (+2.1%), while Russia returned to positive territory (+0.7%).
Equally significant is the performance in emerging markets. Countries like Ukraine (+32.2%), Romania (+25%), and Greece (+20.5%) underline the success of diversification strategies pursued by the Consortium.
Part of this momentum is attributed to Prosecco DOC’s role as the Official Sparkling Wine of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. This partnership represents one of the largest investments in the denomination’s history and reflects a broader strategy focused on sustainability, innovation, and modern communication.
Looking ahead, early 2026 data indicates continued growth, with March bottling volumes up by +6.4% year-on-year. According to Consortium President Giancarlo Guidolin, earlier fluctuations were largely due to strategic stockpiling in the US market in anticipation of tariff pressures.
With sustainability remaining central—through innovations such as Assisted Evolution Techniques (TEA) and commitments to responsible consumption via the Wine in Moderation program—Prosecco DOC appears well-positioned to navigate ongoing uncertainties while maintaining its upward trajectory.
