Georgia's Wine and Spirits Export Surge: A Record-Breaking Year in 2024

In 2024, Georgia achieved a remarkable milestone in its wine and spirits industry, exporting products worth a total of USD 565 million, marking a significant 24% increase compared to the previous year.

This robust growth is a testament to the country's growing prominence in the global wine market and its ability to meet the demands of an expanding international audience.

Wine Exports Soar

The National Wine Agency of Georgia reported that the country exported nearly 95 million liters of wine, generating a revenue of $276.1 million. This represents a 6% increase in volume and a 7% rise in revenue compared to 2023, underscoring Georgia's ability to both produce and market high-quality wines that appeal to a diverse range of consumers.

Georgia's wine exports have been particularly successful in several key markets, with notable increases recorded in countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. For instance, Poland saw a 12% rise, with 6.7 million liters of Georgian wine exported. In Germany, the increase was even more significant, with exports growing by 30%, reaching 1.28 million liters.

The United States, one of Georgia's most important export markets, also saw a 32% increase, with over 1.2 million liters of Georgian wine crossing the Atlantic. Other countries experiencing strong growth include Lithuania (up 11% to 707,000 liters), Great Britain (42% increase to 425,600 liters), and Turkey (62% increase to 538,000 liters).

The UAE, a relatively new but rapidly growing market, saw an extraordinary 80% surge in Georgian wine imports, with 70,000 liters imported in 2024. South Korea, another promising market, recorded a 26% increase, reaching 72,500 liters. These figures highlight Georgia's growing reach and recognition in the global wine industry.

The Spirits Market Expands

In addition to wine, Georgia's spirits exports have also experienced impressive growth. The country exported 48 million liters of other alcoholic beverages to 56 countries, marking a 53% increase compared to 2023. Revenue from these exports soared to $289 million, reflecting a 47% rise. This surge in spirits exports further solidifies Georgia's position as a major player in the international alcohol market.

Key Export Markets for Georgian Spirits

While Georgia's wine exports have expanded significantly, the spirits category has also seen a rise in demand in various countries. These exports include popular Georgian spirits such as chacha, a traditional grape pomace brandy that has gained international recognition for its distinctive flavor and quality. The United States, Poland, and neighboring countries in the Caucasus and Central Asia are among the major importers of Georgian spirits.
