This expansion includes 13 esteemed wineries, furthering the ÖTW's mission to promote and classify Austria's finest vineyards.

Stefan Tscheppe, the estate manager of the winery of the Prince of Liechtenstein, has been appointed as chairman of the new association.

Focus on "Erste Lagen" Classification

One of the primary projects undertaken by the ÖTW in the Weinviertel region, which boasts approximately 13,850 hectares of vineyards, is the classification of "Erste Lagen" (Premier CRU). This classification aims to identify and highlight the region's top vineyards, ensuring recognition for their exceptional terroir and the quality of wines they produce.

At a press conference, ÖTW representatives explained that this initiative is crucial for maintaining high standards and promoting the unique characteristics of Weinviertel wines. The "Erste Lagen" classification will help consumers and connoisseurs recognize the superior quality of wines from these designated vineyards.

Growth of the ÖTW

With the inclusion of the new Weinviertel members, the number of ÖTW member wineries has increased to 90. These members collectively cultivate 109 Erste Lage vineyards classified by the ÖTW. This expansion marks a significant milestone for the ÖTW, reflecting its continued growth and influence in the Austrian wine industry.

A Long-Awaited Development

The foundation of the ÖTW association in the Weinviertel region has been in preparation for the past two years. This careful planning underscores the commitment of the ÖTW to enhance and preserve the quality of Austrian wines. The inclusion of the Weinviertel region not only expands the reach of the ÖTW but also brings new opportunities for collaboration and innovation within the Austrian wine community.
