Wine Paris Overtakes ProWein as the Leading International Wine Trade Exhibition

After six editions, Wine Paris has officially emerged as the leading international exhibition for the wine and spirits trade, surpassing the long-reigning ProWein.

Organized by Vinexposium, Wine Paris 2025 hosted an impressive 5,300 exhibitors and attracted over 50,000 visitors—an increase of 29% and 25% respectively compared to 2024. These figures place the Paris-based event ahead of ProWein, which recorded 5,275 exhibitors and 47,000 visitors at its 30th-anniversary edition in Düsseldorf, marking a 12% and 4% decline from the previous year.

A Rapid Ascent to the Top

Wine Paris has significantly closed the gap with its German counterpart since its inaugural joint exhibition in 2019 (following the merger of Vinexpo Paris, Vinovision, and Vinisud). At that time, Wine Paris welcomed 2,000 exhibitors and 27,600 visitors, while ProWein stood at 6,870 stands and 60,000 visitors. Over the past six years, the Paris event has steadily grown in scale and influence, capitalizing on shifting industry dynamics and exhibitor preferences.

The Shift in International Presence

While French exhibitors remain dominant, the significant increase in international participation has played a key role in Wine Paris' ascent. Foreign exhibitors expanded their floor space by 80% in 2025, a clear indicator that the event is no longer seen as just a showcase for French wines. This sentiment is echoed by Frederico Falcão, chairman of the Portuguese wine marketing board ViniPortugal, who emphasized the event’s broad appeal: “It’s a competition, but it is healthy to have attendance by wines from Australia, New Zealand, California, and Italy—it attracts international buyers.”

The visitor demographics further reinforce this trend, with international attendees making up 45% of the total audience. This growing global reach has helped Wine Paris establish itself as a major hub for B2B networking and trade.

What This Means for the Future

Despite its recent setbacks, ProWein remains a formidable force in the wine industry. However, Wine Paris has undeniably positioned itself as a premier alternative, offering a fresh and dynamic business environment. The real challenge for the Paris-based event now lies in maintaining this momentum, ensuring strong return on investment for exhibitors, and continuing to attract key international players in an increasingly competitive market.

As Wine Paris enters a new phase of maturity, its ability to sustain exhibitor and visitor engagement will determine whether it can maintain its newly earned status as the world’s leading wine trade fair.
