Vinitaly 2026 Prepares to Showcase Resilience and Innovation

After a record-breaking €8.1 billion in wine exports in 2024, Italian wine faces a modest slowdown, with 2025 projections at €7.7 billion. Yet the sector’s strength remains undeniable.

Amid global crises—from geopolitical conflicts and trade tensions to health concerns—Italian wine continues to embody quality, heritage, and innovation. Accounting for €14 billion in production value and €45 billion including related activities, the wine industry represents 1.1% of Italy’s GDP, spans 670,000 hectares of vineyards, involves 530,000 businesses, and directly employs 870,000 people.

Vinitaly 2026, the 58th edition of Italy’s premier wine event, will take place from 12–15 April at Veronafiere in Verona, with the prologue of “OperaWine” by Wine Spectator on 11 April, featuring 150 top Italian wineries. Presented in Rome at Palazzo Montecitorio, the launch saw the presence of key figures including the President of the Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana, Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida, and the President of ITA - Italian Trade Agency Matteo Zoppas, alongside Veronafiere leadership Federico Bricolo and Gianni Bruno.

A Fair Designed for Market Innovation and Global Connection

Vinitaly 2026 emphasizes both established and emerging markets, featuring dedicated areas such as NoLo - Vinitaly Experience, Xcellent Spirits, Vinitaly Tourism, and Vinitaly Bio, alongside initiatives like Vinitaly and the City. The fair hosts 4,000 Italian wine companies, over 100 official events, tastings, and focus sessions, and aims to act as a hub connecting global buyers and Italian producers.

The incoming campaign by Veronafiere and ITA highlights over 1,000 top buyers from more than 130 countries, with strong representation from North America, Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. Key markets include the USA, Canada, China, Japan, India, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Nordic countries, and Eastern Europe, underlining Vinitaly’s global reach.

Celebrating Italian Lifestyle and Gastronomy

Vinitaly 2026 also celebrates Italian culture and cuisine, newly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned restaurants, including Carlo Cracco’s Ristorante Cracco and chef Davide Palluda’s Piemonte Land, will showcase food-wine pairings, reinforcing Italy’s gastronomic excellence. Wine policy discussions are on the agenda, with meetings on the EU’s “Wine Package,” aiming to support young entrepreneurs in wine tourism and related sectors.

Innovation in Wine: No-Lo, Spirits, and Wine Tourism

Vinitaly increasingly integrates emerging trends, notably the No-Lo (no- and low-alcohol) market. Expected to grow in Italy from €3.3 million to €15 million within four years, and globally from $2.4 billion to $3.3 billion by 2028, this segment will be featured in NoLo - Vinitaly Experience, alongside 25 pioneering companies. Xcellent Spirits revamps the spirits and mixology segment, while Vinitaly Tourism strengthens wine tourism initiatives with B2B meetings, experiential programs, and thematic hubs curated with experts in tourism management and regional promotion.

Digital tools and networking platforms like Vinitaly Plus Buyers Club and Bacco Ai further enhance business opportunities, connecting producers and buyers efficiently and strategically.

A Comprehensive Tasting Journey

Vinitaly 2026 offers over 80 institutional tastings, including the signature Grand Tastings and masterclasses led by experts like Gabriele Gorelli, Ian D’Agata, Riccardo Cotarella, Bruce Sanderson, and Alison Napjus. Highlights include Italian white wines, historic vintages, native grape varieties, and a range of international wines, from Bordeaux reds to South African innovations. The DoctorWine Selection, Gambero Rosso tastings, and Young to Young initiatives spotlight both heritage and emerging talent.

The event also emphasizes future viticultural trends, with seminars on climate change, innovation, non-alcoholic wines, and the evolving concept of wine tourism. Thematic sessions cover native grape varieties, iconic territories, and the sustainable evolution of Italian wine, providing actionable insights for producers and global buyers alike.

Global Expansion Beyond Verona

Vinitaly’s international program continues with Wine South America (Brazil), Wine to Asia (Shenzhen), Vinitaly Kazakhstan Roadshow (Almaty), Vinitaly @Wine Vision (Belgrade), and Vinitaly.USA (New York), alongside the wine2wine Business Forum and upcoming events in India. These initiatives strengthen the internationalization of Italian wine, positioning Vinitaly as a global reference point for both commercial and strategic development in the sector.

Vinitaly 2026 is more than a trade fair—it is a celebration of resilience, innovation, and the Italian lifestyle, offering producers and buyers a comprehensive platform to explore the future of Italian wine amidst the challenges and opportunities of a complex international landscape.
