This record-breaking participation underscores the enduring popularity and significance of the Sauvignon blanc varietal in the contemporary wine landscape.

Hosted by Austria's picturesque Steiermark region, this year's event witnessed a record-breaking participation from producers across the globe, underscoring the universal appeal and significance of the Sauvignon blanc varietal.

Austria's Triumph

Austria, with its steadfast commitment to excellence, emerged as a standout performer in the competition. The Steiermark region showcased its prowess by clinching an impressive 42% of accolades among the Austrian entries. Among the triumphs, the Muster.Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc Grubthal 2020 from Southern Styria reigned supreme, capturing the judges' hearts with its elegance, length, and delightful pineapple notes. Additionally, Austria secured two other Revelation awards, further solidifying its status as a force to be reckoned with in the Sauvignon blanc arena.

Across continents, South Africa reaffirmed its status as a heavyweight in the world of Sauvignon blanc, bagging 25 medals, including two prestigious Grand Golds. The Coastal Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2017 by Delaire Graff Estate stood out as a testament to South Africa's unwavering dedication to crafting high-end Sauvignon wines that captivate palates worldwide.

French Excellence Continues

In France, where winemaking is akin to an art form, the top wine regions upheld their legacy of producing Sauvignon blanc wines of unparalleled quality. From the Loire Valley to Bordeaux, French wines showcased a diverse array of flavors and characteristics, earning accolades such as the International Trophy for the Best Blend and Grand Gold medals.

  • The International Trophy for the Best Blend was awarded to a Cheverny wine by Domaine du Salvard Vieilles Vignes 2023 (Sauvignon-Chardonnay).
  • First-time competition entrants Isabelle and Elise Balland and their Domaine Jean-Paul Balland – Grande Cuvée Sancerre 2023 came away with the Revelation Award for France.
  • Pouilly-Fumé also showed well with a Grand Gold medal awarded to the 2023 vintage by Domaine Treuillet.

Spain's Steady Stride

Spain, while maintaining its position as a formidable contender, secured 11 medals, including 5 Golds and a coveted Grand Gold for the 2021 Inurrieta Orchidea Sauvignon Blanc, a testament to the country's unwavering commitment to quality winemaking.
