Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg: A Global White Wine Beacon

Each year, Strasbourg becomes the epicenter of global white wine appreciation through the Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg, the only wine competition in the world entirely dedicated to white wines.

Held under the patronage of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and as a member of VINOFED, the competition continues to elevate the status of white wines internationally.

2025 Edition: A Celebration of White Wine Diversity

The 27th edition took place on April 5–6, 2025, at the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès in Strasbourg. With sixty expert judges representing twenty-four nationalities, the event spotlighted the evolving landscape of white wine production and innovation.

A total of wines from thirteen countries were awarded medals, with notable wins for Spain, Australia, the United States, Italy, Ukraine, and a first-ever gold medal for Denmark (Agger Vin).

The jury recognized wines across multiple stylistic categories:

  • 22 Grand Gold Medals (scores ≥ 93 points)
  • 125 Gold Medals (scores ≥ 89 points)
  • 26 Silver Medals (scores ≥ 85 points)

Grand Prix du Jury 2025: Tokaj Triumphs

The Grand Jury Prize was awarded to a 22-year-old Slovakian white wine: the 2003 Tokajsky Vyber 6 Putnovy, produced by Ostrozovic Spol sro in Velka Trna, Tokaj region. Scoring 95.2 points, this naturally sweet wine featured a brown hue with caramel and orange notes, and an intense yet balanced fruit-acidity profile. Expertly judged by an international panel including Japanese, Danish, Czech, British, and French members, the wine was praised as an ideal companion to duck foie gras and fig confit.

Trophies, Special Prizes, and Innovation

Nine trophies were awarded to dry wines with <4 g/L residual sugar:

  • Czech Republic: 4 trophies
  • Slovakia: 2 trophies
  • Australia, Spain, France: 1 trophy each

Special VINOFED Awards:

  • Best Brut Sparkling Wine: Comtes de Champagne 2013, Taittinger, Reims
  • Best Dry Still Wine: Ryzlink Rynsky 2023, B\V Vinarstvi, Czech Republic

Innovations included:

  • A new dealcoholized wine category, with a masterclass by Bruno Marret and Sue Eames
  • Jury favorite wines such as:
    • Atypique 2023 (Vogt Laurent, Alsace) – Best macerated white
    • White Pearl 2017 (Kovach Winery, Ukraine) – Best first entry
    • Palava vyber z hroznu 2024 (Vinarstvi Krist, Czech Republic) – Best native variety wine

Spain Shines

Spain walked away with three medals:

  • GoldPaco & Lola Albariño Rías Baixas DO 2024
  • GoldDiez Siglos de Verdejo Nekora 2024
  • SilverBodega de Sarría La Caprichosa Verdejo 2023

Strasbourg Events, with 40 years of wine event expertise and winner of the World MICE Awards 2023 & 2024, continues to elevate the profile of white wines globally. As part of VINOFED, winners benefit from enhanced visibility through platforms like Wine-Searcher, offering producers international recognition.

From emerging regions to world-renowned appellations, the Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg is not only a competition but a celebration of terroir, talent, and the full spectrum of white wine expression.
