Spain Barcelona Wine Week 2024

Barcelona Wine Week 2025: An Unmissable Event of Great Importance for Spain’s Wine Industry

From February 3rd to 5th, 2025, the Montjuïc venue at Fira de Barcelona will host the highly anticipated Barcelona Wine Week (BWW), which is set to be the largest edition yet.

With more than 1,100 wineries showcasing their finest wines and an expected attendance of over 24,000 trade visitors, BWW 2025 promises to be a landmark event for Spain’s wine industry.

A Showcase of Spanish Diversity

This year, the fair will feature 75 Designations of Origin (D.O.s) and other prestigious quality seals from 16 of Spain’s autonomous communities. BWW offers a rare opportunity to explore Spain's varied and multifaceted wine regions, from the internationally acclaimed Rioja and Ribera del Duero to smaller, lesser-known D.O.s that produce exceptional wines. Attendees will experience wines from Ribeira Sacra (Galicia), Alella (Barcelona), Rueda (Castilla y León), and Somontano (Aragón)—all showcasing the breadth and unique characteristics of Spanish terroir.

A Surge in Participation and Global Focus

With a 31% increase in the number of exhibitors and a projected 20% rise in global participation compared to the previous year, BWW 2025 is positioning itself as a key global platform for Spanish wines. The fair will welcome international importers and distributors from key growing markets, including South Korea, Poland, Mexico, and Japan. Over 700 industry professionals will participate in the ‘Hosted Buyers Program,’ coordinated by Spain’s ICEX trade promotion body, to foster deeper commercial connections.

Javier Pagés, President of BWW and the Cava D.O., comments: “BWW wants to become a truly game-changer for the industry. We are confident that this year’s show will serve as a platform for Spanish quality wineries to expand and strengthen their position in an increasingly competitive market.”

Celebrating Heritage and Innovation

Despite a slowdown in global wine exports by volume, Spanish wines continue to captivate the world with their quality and heritage. Spain remains the third-largest wine producer in the EU, with a notable 18% increase in wine production in 2024, according to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).

BWW 2025 will place special emphasis on wines from historical, ungrafted vines that are over 300 years old. These ancient vines offer a unique link to the past, reflecting centuries of winemaking traditions in Spain. Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's most respected winemakers, highlights this special focus: "Wines from ungrafted vines that are over 300 years old offer a journey through the history of Spanish wine culture."

Regions such as Lanzarote, Pontevedra, and Valladolid will provide rare treasures for wine lovers and industry professionals alike, allowing attendees to savor wines with deep roots in Spain’s winemaking heritage.

Spotlight on Spanish White Wines

In addition to historical vines, another focal point of BWW 2025 will be Spanish white wines, which have seen a significant rise in popularity over the past few years. Sales of Spanish white wines have grown dramatically, driven by the country’s increasing reputation for producing fresh, vibrant wines with exceptional character. This segment will be a central theme at the fair, as industry leaders and experts explore the dynamics behind this growing trend.

Addressing Climate Change and Sustainability

One of the major topics at BWW 2025 will be the challenges of climate change and its impact on Spain’s wine regions. The fair will feature discussions on adapting to drought conditions, water management, and sustainable winemaking practices. As climate change reshapes agriculture globally, Spanish winemakers are at the forefront of finding innovative solutions to ensure the future of wine production in the country.

Winemaker Raventós Codorníu, a key exhibitor at the event, stresses: "Adapting to drought and efficient water use are crucial topics for the future of wine in Spain. Sustainability must be at the core of all our practices."

Honoring Women in Wine

BWW 2025 will also shine a spotlight on the contribution of women to the Spanish wine industry. The inaugural "Isabel Mijares Award" will be presented to an outstanding woman in the wine world, with renowned figures such as Jancis Robinson MW among the prominent finalists. This event highlights the increasing role of women in shaping the future of the wine industry globally.

Additionally, the "Her Signature Wines" tasting will feature winemakers such as Mayte Calvo of Bodegas Bilbaínas and Anne Cannan of Clos Figueres. These tastings will allow attendees to engage directly with some of Spain's leading women winemakers and learn about their unique approaches to crafting exceptional wines.

Wine Tourism and International Exchange

BWW 2025 will not only be a showcase for Spanish wines but also a celebration of international wine tourism. The fair will host an international wine tourism forum, highlighting innovative wine tourism projects from global wine regions including Bordeaux, Porto, Georgia, and China. This forum will serve as a platform for cross-cultural exchange, fostering deeper connections between Spain’s wine regions and the global wine community.

A Record-Breaking Event

As the fair continues to grow in scope and influence, Barcelona Wine Week 2025 will solidify its position as one of the most important wine events in Europe. With a record-breaking number of exhibitors, a significant increase in global participation, and a forward-thinking program that embraces sustainability, heritage, and innovation, BWW promises to be an unmissable event for wine professionals and enthusiasts alike.

Whether you are looking to explore Spain’s rich wine heritage, discover emerging wine regions, or engage with the challenges and opportunities of the modern wine industry, BWW 2025 offers a unique and invaluable experience.
