Austria: Burgenland Wines at the Design Center Linz

This week, I had the pleasure of attending a captivating wine tasting event hosted within the sleek confines of this architectural gem. A wine event organized by Wein Burgenland at Design Center Linz, which is not only a hub for creativity and innovation but also a haven for wine enthusiasts seeking to explore the rich flavors of Burgenland.

The Design Center Linz, with its striking modern design and expansive interiors, provided the perfect canvas for showcasing the diversity and sophistication of Burgenland's wines. Against this backdrop of sleek lines and innovative spaces, rows of wine booths beckoned visitors to indulge in a sensorial exploration of the region's terroir.

The Wine Tasting Experience

As I stepped into the bustling event hall, I was greeted by the melodic clinking of glasses and the gentle murmur of conversation. The air was alive with anticipation as wine enthusiasts from near and far gathered to partake in this celebration of oenological artistry.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to interact with the passionate winemakers themselves, who shared their insights and stories behind each bottle. From the sun-drenched slopes of Lake Neusiedl to the limestone-rich soils of Eisenberg, their love for the land and dedication to their craft shone through in every sip.

I would like to mention the following vintages, a reflection and essence of the wine region:

  • A-Nobis, Sektkellerei Grande Cuvée Extra Brut 2013: Fine and elegant pearl game; on the nose, complex fruit bouquet of wild berries (raspberries, strawberries) and notes of orange; on the palate, dry but complex due to its fruitiness, fresh and stylish acidity converts into a delicate sparkling with a long-lasting finish.
  • Weingut Christian Kirnbauer, Coup de Coer Cabernet Franc (2019): Dark ruby garnet with violet reflections, delicate edge lightening; on the nose, intense scent of black currant, currant, dark berry, floral hints, noble roasted aromas; on the palate, complex and powerful on the palate, dark, extra-sweet berry fruit, strong, balanced tannin structure, long finish.
  • Weingut Josef und Maria Reumann, Blaufränkisch (2018): Maturated 12 months in oak barrels, a fine red wine with charm and character; on the nose, forest fruits, dark cherry; on the palate, creamy, long, ethereal freshness, salty, tightly woven.
  • Weingut Toni Hartl, Srah Ried Thenau (2018): Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections; on the nose, distinctive bouquet of dark cherries, spicy black olives and pepper, subtle tobacco notes; on the palate, elegant opulence and intensity, ripe, fine tannins, complex, fruity finish with a long mineral aftertaste.

The Essence of Burgenland

As the event drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the essence of Burgenland. Wine here is a reflection of the region's soul's - culture, identity,  history, people, and unparalleled natural beauty. It is a reminder that amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life, there are still pockets of serenity and tradition waiting to be discovered.

My journey through the wine tasting event at the Design Center Linz was a feast for the senses and a celebration of the timeless art of winemaking, where every moment was a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship that define Burgenland's vinicultural heritage!

Enjoy it responsibly!
