Fine Wine Market: Bordeaux the Most Traded Wines

This week, Bordeaux has once again dominated the fine wine market, claiming over 40% of the total trade share.

Notably, three Bordeaux wines have secured top spots among the most traded by value, reaffirming the region's enduring appeal and market strength. Among these, Château Mouton Rothschild 2010, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, and Château Giscours 2019 continue to command attention and value on the exchange.

Regional Insights

Italy shone brightly this week, with both Tuscany and Piedmont witnessing significant increases in their trade shares by value. Tuscany's share rose from 7.5% to 10.8%, buoyed by the trading of prestigious wines from Tenuta San Guido and Ornellaia. Similarly, Piedmont saw its share climb from 3.3% to 5.1%, driven by wines from renowned estates like Giuseppe Rinaldi and Azienda Vitivinicola Conterno Giacomo.

Conversely, the Rhône and the USA experienced declines in their trade shares, reflecting shifting market dynamics and preferences. The Rhône's share dipped from 3.6% to 2.7%, while the USA, after a brief surge in activity, fell from 9.4% to 4.0% of the total trade this week.

Top-Traded Wines

Château Mouton Rothschild 2010, a perennial favorite, retained its place among the top-traded wines by value. Initially released at GBP 7,750 per case, this wine has seen fluctuations in market value, influenced by critical acclaim and market trends. Similarly, Vega Sicilia Único 2013, a standout Spanish wine from Ribera del Duero, secured a top spot. Released at GBP 3,156 per case, it remains a sought-after vintage despite newer releases.

Market Dynamics and Insights

Despite Burgundy's slight decrease in trade share to 21.3%, Maison Joseph Drouhin Montrachet Grand Cru Marquis de Laguiche 2018 emerged as a leader in terms of value. With a last trade price of GBP 8,824 per case and high praise from critics, this wine exemplifies Burgundy's enduring appeal and premium market position.
