Moldovan Wine Exports January–July 2025: Volume Declines While Value Remains Resilient

According to data from the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV) extracted from SIA ASYCUDA, Moldova’s wine exports in the first seven months of 2025 showed a mixed performance.

While total export volume declined, the overall value of shipments decreased only slightly, reflecting strategic market choices and a focus on higher-value products.

Total Volume and Value
From January to July 2025, Moldova exported 73.15 million liters of wine, marking a 12% decline compared to the same period in 2024. Despite this drop in volume, export revenue totaled USD 122.42 million, only 5% lower than the previous year. This discrepancy between volume and value highlights the ability of Moldovan exporters to sustain pricing and target higher-value markets even amid global demand fluctuations.

Global Reach
Moldovan wines reached 63 countries during this period, with the top 10 export markets accounting for 81% of total export value and 83% of total volume. This concentration emphasizes the importance of key international markets while also hinting at potential opportunities to expand into emerging regions.

Key Highlights:

  • Total Volume and Value: Exports reached 73.15 million liters, representing a 12% decrease compared to June 2024. In terms of value, exports amounted to USD 122.42 million, down 5% from the previous year.
  • Global Reach: In the first seven months of 2025, wine products were exported to 63 countries, with the top 10 markets accounting for 81% of export value and 83% of the total volume.

Analysis and Outlook
The 12% decline in total export volume illustrates challenges in global demand, while the modest 5% decrease in value suggests that Moldovan wine exporters are successfully maintaining revenue through strategic pricing and targeting high-value markets. Bottled wines dominate export revenue, particularly for still and sparkling wines, while bulk exports show mixed performance. The notable growth of bottled liqueur wines indicates a shift towards premium, ready-to-drink products, while brandy continues to perform strongly in bulk shipments.

These trends underline the critical importance of diversifying markets and wine categories. Exporters that concentrate on top-performing countries and invest in bottled, value-added products may better absorb volume fluctuations while maintaining stable revenue growth in the second half of 2025.
