Moldova's Wine Export Boom: First Semester 2024 Overview

In the first semester of 2024, Moldova's wine industry has demonstrated robust growth in both volume and value of exports, marking a significant uptick in global demand.

According to recent customs data, Moldova exported a total of 71.3 million liters of wine (including bottled and bulk), reflecting a notable 17% increase compared to the previous year. This surge amounted to USD 110.3 million in export value, representing a substantial 21% year-on-year growth.

Key Wine Export Statistics

Types of Wine:

  • Still Wines: Moldova exported 54.2 million liters, marking a 5% increase year-on-year. In terms of value, these exports totaled USD 63.5 million, up 6% from the previous year.
    • Bottled Still Wines: Exported 16.4 million liters, showing a 6% increase year-on-year, with a value of USD 38.9 million, up 9% year-on-year.
    • Bulk Still Wines: Exported 37.7 million liters, a 5% increase year-on-year, valued at USD 24.6 million.
  • Sparkling Wines: Exported 1.1 million liters, growing by 5% year-on-year, with a total export value of USD 2.9 million, up 19% year-on-year.
  • Dessert Wines: Notably, dessert wines saw a staggering 579% increase in volume, reaching 9.6 million liters, and a substantial value of USD 22 million.

    Global Reach and Market Distribution

    Moldova's wines found markets in 61 countries worldwide during this period, with the top 10 countries absorbing 82% of the total export volumes. This distribution underscores Moldova's diversified export strategy and expanding footprint in global wine markets.

    The significant rise in Moldova's wine exports during the first half of 2024 not only underscores the resilience and competitiveness of its wine industry but also makes a substantial contribution to the national economy.
