Moldovan Wine Exports: A Strong Finish to 2024 (January - December)

Moldova's wine exports for the full year of 2024 demonstrated remarkable growth, both in volume and value, showcasing the country’s continued prominence in the global wine industry.

With increases across all key wine categories, the sector capped the year on a high note.

Total Wine Exports: Key Figures

In 2024, Moldova exported 144,055,217 liters of wine products, marking a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The total value of these exports reached USD 234,665,763, a significant 22% rise year-on-year.

These wine exports were distributed across 73 countries, with the top 10 markets accounting for 81% of the total export value and 83% of the export volume, reflecting Moldova's targeted approach in prioritizing key international markets.


Performance Across Wine Categories

1. Bottled Still Wines

Bottled still wines remain a cornerstone of Moldova's wine industry, with 82.6 million USD in export revenue, a 4% year-on-year increase, despite a slight decline in volume to 34 million liters (-3% compared to 2023).

The average price per 0.75-liter bottle improved, reflecting consumer appreciation for Moldova’s premium wine offerings in competitive global markets.

2. Bulk Still Wines

Bulk wine exports experienced robust growth, generating 47.8 million USD (+7% year-on-year) from 72.2 million liters, which represents an 8% increase in volume compared to the previous year.

This growth underscores Moldova’s strength in providing high-quality bulk wine for blending or further bottling in destination markets.

3. Sparkling Wines

Moldova's sparkling wine segment continued to sparkle, with exports totaling 8.6 million USD, a 12% year-on-year increase, and 3.1 million liters sold globally.

The average price for sparkling wine also improved, reflecting increased demand and recognition for Moldova's growing expertise in crafting quality sparkling wines.

4. Dessert Wines

The dessert wine category saw impressive gains, reaching 4.3 million USD, up 15% year-on-year, with a total volume of 1.5 million liters (+9%).

This growth highlights Moldova’s niche strength in producing richly flavored and aromatic dessert wines that resonate with global wine lovers.


Strategic Market Insights

The increase in both volume and value of exports demonstrates Moldova's ability to navigate complex global market dynamics, including evolving consumer preferences and economic challenges. The focus on top-performing export destinations remains a key driver of success, as the top 10 countries alone accounted for the lion’s share of the export gains.
