Georgia's Wine Export Boom: A Mid-2024 Report

As of the second quarter of 2024, Georgia has experienced a significant surge in its wine exports.

From January to June, the country exported a remarkable 54.5 million liters of wine, valued at USD 156.7 million, to 61 countries.

This marks a substantial year-on-year increase of 26% in volume and 24% in revenue, reflecting the growing global demand for Georgian wine.

Key Markets Driving Growth

Several countries have shown notable increases in their imports of Georgian wine, contributing significantly to this export boom:

  • Poland: Exports to Poland rose by 19%, totaling 3.1 million liters. This growth underscores Poland's consistent demand for Georgian wine.
  • USA: The United States saw a dramatic increase of 53%, with imports reaching 654 thousand liters. This spike highlights the expanding appreciation and market penetration of Georgian wines in the American market.
  • Germany: German imports of Georgian wine grew by 34%, amounting to 674 thousand liters. This increase reflects Germany's robust wine market and its interest in diverse wine offerings.
  • Great Britain: The UK imported 182.5 thousand liters, a 28% increase. This growth signals a rising trend of Georgian wine consumption among British wine enthusiasts.
  • Turkey: Exports to Turkey jumped by 47%, totaling 239.2 thousand liters, indicating a strengthening trade relationship.
  • Israel: There was a modest increase of 3% in Israeli imports, totaling 190 thousand liters, maintaining steady demand.
  • Czech Republic: The Czech Republic saw a significant rise of 107%, with imports reaching 38 thousand liters, showcasing growing interest in Georgian wine.

Expanding Beyond Wine: Alcoholic Beverages

In addition to wine, Georgia has also made impressive strides in exporting other alcoholic beverages. In the first half of 2024, the country exported 23.4 million liters of alcoholic beverages to 45 countries. This marks a substantial 55% increase compared to the same period last year, with revenue from these exports totaling USD 132.8 million, reflecting a 59% increase. This growth highlights Georgia's expanding portfolio and its successful penetration into new markets for a variety of alcoholic drinks.
