Honoring Moldova’s Terroir: Inside Javgur Winery

The story of Javgur Winery stretches back more than 35 years, rooted in the passion and vision of Gheorghe Scutaru, who laid the foundations for what would become one of Moldova’s respected family wineries.

His ambition was simple yet profound: to create wines that honor the traditions of Moldovan viticulture while embracing innovation.

A Family-Run Winery

From the very beginning, Javgur Winery has been a family endeavor. Gheorghe’s children, Vasile Scutaru and Aliona Nazaria, followed in his footsteps, each taking on essential roles within the business. Vasile oversees the production process, ensuring that every wine reflects both terroir and craftsmanship, while Aliona manages distributor relations and bottling. Together, with their parents and spouses, they continue to carry the family vision forward.

Although running a family business is never without challenges, the Scutaru family has found strength in unity. Decisions are guided by Gheorghe, the core oenologist and head of the family, but all members contribute with ideas and perspectives. The balance between experience and younger generations’ international vision has allowed Javgur Winery to evolve while staying true to its heritage.

Growth and Modernization

The winery’s modern journey began with the planting of new orchards in 2000, marking a new chapter of expansion. In 2018, a complete re-equipment of the winery took place, integrating modern technology with traditional know-how. This investment not only improved production quality but also opened the path toward creating more refined, expressive wines for both local and international markets.
