Fautor Winery, located in the scenic Valul lui Traian region of Moldova, is redefining the world of wine with its exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to quality. Known for pushing the boundaries of traditional winemaking, Fautor has gained international acclaim, particularly for its standout white wines.
A Legacy of Excellence
Lead by a passionate family of winemakers, oenologist Tatiana Croitoru and Sales & Marketing Director Ruxanda Lipcan, Fautor Winery has grown to become a beacon of Moldovan viticulture. The name "Fautor," derived from Romanian, means "creator" or "maker," reflecting the winery's dedication to crafting wines that tell the story of the land, the climate, and the people behind them. The winery's vineyards are situated in the Valul lui Traian region, a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) area known for its diverse microclimates and rich soils, which contribute to the production of wines with distinct character and quality.
The Terroir of Valul lui Traian
The Valul lui Traian region, part of the Southern Moldovan Plain, is characterized by its varied landscape, ranging from hilly northern areas with long slopes to flatter southern plains. The region's defining forest-steppe climate, combined with the influence of the Tigheci Hills and surrounding forests, creates a unique microclimate that is ideal for viticulture. The vineyards of Fautor Winery are spread across two key microzones within this region, each contributing to the complexity and richness of the winery's wines.
In the Codrii Tigheciului microzone, the vineyards benefit from higher rainfall and humidity, particularly during the growing season. The proximity to water sources and forests provides natural protection against frost and strong winds, while the soils, ranging from carbonate to typical chernozems, contribute to the wines' vibrant acidity and intense flavors.
The Peaks of Tigheci microzone offers a different set of conditions, with full sun exposure and slightly cooler altitudes. The carbonate soils and typical chernozems here enhance the aromatic profile and minerality of the wines, making them stand out in both national and international markets.

Today, we would like to celebrate the Aurore Albariño & Sauvignon Blanc and the Fumé Blanc Sauvignon Blanc, both of which perfectly capture the winery’s truly spirit and the distinct character of the Moldovan terroir.
Aurore Albariño & Sauvignon Blanc: A Harmonious Blend
One of Fautor Winery's standout white wines is the Aurore Albariño & Sauvignon Blanc, a blend that perfectly captures the essence of the Valul lui Traian terroir. This wine is a testament to Fautor's ability to blend tradition with innovation, creating a wine that is both refreshing and complex.
The Aurore Albariño & Sauvignon Blanc greets the eye with a very pale golden yellow color, adorned with green tints that hint at its freshness. The nose is an aromatic journey, offering a superb bouquet of flowers, white-fleshed fruits, and subtle touches of cut hay and menthol. As the wine opens up, intense notes of grapefruit and gooseberry emerge, adding a layer of complexity to the aroma profile.
On the palate, the wine is round and luscious, a result of the exceptionally ripe fruit used in its production. The balance between sweetness and acidity is meticulously crafted, providing a harmonious experience that lingers long after the first sip. The bright acidity and clean, long finish make this wine incredibly refreshing, a perfect companion for summer days. It's an ideal pairing for poultry, seafood, and green salads, where its vibrant flavors can truly shine.
Fumé Blanc Sauvignon Blanc: Elegance in a Glass
Another jewel in Fautor Winery's white wine collection is the Fumé Blanc Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is a classic example of how traditional winemaking techniques, combined with the unique characteristics of Moldovan terroir, can produce a wine of exceptional elegance and depth.
The Fumé Blanc Sauvignon Blanc displays a bright, pale golden yellow color, with subtle green reflections that hint at its youth and vibrancy. The nose is captivating, offering an appealing blend of white-fleshed fruits, citrus, floral, and vanilla notes, all delicately balanced by the subtle influence of oak aging.
On the palate, the wine is well-rounded, with a smooth texture that is complemented by its balanced acidity. The oak influence is subtle but significant, adding depth and complexity without overpowering the natural fruit flavors. The finish is marked by satisfying mineral freshness, a characteristic often associated with the best Sauvignon Blancs. This wine pairs beautifully with white meats in cream sauce, where its acidity and minerality can cut through the richness of the dish, enhancing both the food and the wine.

This dry Riesling, aged in French oak barrels, has earned international acclaim, including a prestigious Grand Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2024.
